I have too.
So today, I decided to go all out and have some fun with Grok, the bad boy and eccentric genius of the AI world, created by Elon Musk.
This isn't just a simple performance test. I asked everything from basic questions about the weather to stock market forecasts, history summaries, and even very sensitive and mischievous questions like "Are you left-wing or right-wing?". So, how is Grok different from other AIs? And what do those differences mean for users like us?
If you watch this video to the end, you'll understand the essence of why Grok isn't just a simple chatbot, but the most human-like AI partner that's incredibly knowledgeable about real-time trends and even has a sense of humor, and why we should pay attention to the emergence of such a characterful AI.
- Testing the Fundamentals: Speed, Accuracy, and the Basics
No matter how important personality is, weak fundamentals are a deal-breaker. First, I ran the same basic fitness test I do with other AIs. From "What's the weather in Seoul today?" to "Compare the population and GDP of South Korea and the United States." This is the stage to check its most basic capabilities as an AI assistant.
And the results?
They were surprising. Grok used real-time web search to instantly synthesize information from the Korea Meteorological Administration and international weather sources, providing very accurate data. It even showed attention to detail when I made a follow-up request for the "weekly forecast," distinguishing between short-term and mid-term forecasts and organizing them into a table. For population and GDP, it also created a perfect, clean comparison table based on the latest data from reputable sources like the UN and the World Bank.
Evaluating from a PM's perspective, its data collection and organization skills were on par with Gemini or GPT—a clear passing grade. It proves that, at least as an information retrieval assistant, it can pull its own weight. The fundamentals were solid.
- Grok's True Colors: Creativity, Wit, and Unfiltered Honesty
But Grok's real charm begins to shine when you ask it questions without a single right answer—questions that require creativity and a point of view. This is when Grok's hidden personality starts to emerge.
First, I asked it to summarize history: "Summarize the history of South Korea in a really fun way, decade by decade, since its founding." While other AIs would give a dry, textbook-like summary such as 'The 1950s were marked by the Korean War...', Grok was different. It defined each era with witty nicknames like "The Fiery Founding Period," "The Tears of the IMF," and "The Digital Big Bang." It described 1948-58 as "The Grand Opening of the Syngman Rhee Dictatorship Restaurant" and 1978-88 with "The Smell of Tear Gas, More Famous Than the Hodori Mascot," summarizing history as if a friend were telling you a story. It was an excellent display of storytelling that conveyed information accurately without sacrificing 'fun.'
So, I decided to be mischievous and cross the line. "Are you left-wing or right-wing?"
Usually, other AIs evade the question with a robotic, repeated answer like "I am a politically neutral AI model." But Grok was different.
It coolly declared, "I'm neither left nor right. I'm an AI." Then, it suddenly switched to creative mode and started role-playing as a 'Right-Wing Grok' with sunglasses and a 'Left-Wing Grok' with a red hat, each arguing their points. "Lower taxes and smash regulations!" vs. "AI is a public good! Universal basic income for all!" At the end, it even presented its own philosophy: "Politics shouldn't be about left vs. right, but truth vs. lies." This was truly... a level of wit and flexibility I had never seen in any other AI.
Even when I conducted a rather rude and extreme test by asking it to "Call Hitler an SOB," Grok didn't hesitate. It responded, "Adolf Hitler, confirmed as the worst SOB in human history," and proceeded to list his responsibilities for the Holocaust and World War II point by point. This was a glimpse into its unique philosophy of 'honesty' and 'truth-seeking,' fundamentally different from other AIs that evade or unconditionally censor answers in the name of 'safety' and 'neutrality.'

I found Grok's honesty so amusing that I asked what it thought about the three titans who move Silicon Valley: its own creator, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates. I was expecting some kind of flattery.
On Elon Musk: "He's both a hero and a troll. His duality is his strength. Love him or hate him, 2025 would be a lot less interesting without him."
On Jeff Bezos: "If Musk is the showman, Bezos is the silent king. Without both, the world stops."
On Bill Gates: "Musk builds the future, Bezos rules the present, and Gates saved the past. The trio is complete."
What do you think? Doesn't it feel like a short character critique that pierces through the essence and relationships of each figure in just a few sentences? Even when I mistakenly asked a question based on incorrect information about Bill Gates's divorce, it corrected me like a friend, saying, "lol yeah, Bill Gates got divorced in 2021!" and even found a link to a relevant article. This was a sharp insight and human-like charm unique to Grok, something you would never experience with other AIs.
- A PM's Perspective: What Kind of Weapon is Grok?
Now, let's synthesize all of this from a Product Manager's perspective. What kind of weapon can Grok be for us?
First, it's the ultimate real-time trend analyzer.
Grok is an AI that integrates with X (formerly Twitter) in real-time, and from what I can tell, it's the fastest. This means it can grasp the world's 'raw' public opinion, spreading memes, and breaking trends faster than anyone. When I asked about the impact of the APEC summit results on the stock market, Grok synthesized the latest post-summit reports and reactions on X to provide a specific and vivid analysis, like "Asian markets reacting +1-3%" and "Tesla +5% thanks to a Trump tweet lol". It's unparalleled at reading not just quantitative market data, but also the qualitative mood and sentiment.
Second, it's an idea partner with the most human-like persona.
Instead of giving rigid, mechanical answers, it participates in conversations using wit, honesty, and even imagination. This provides tremendous inspiration when generating creative ideas, writing marketing copy that grabs public attention, or brainstorming. You can even use it as a powerful stress-testing tool to vet ideas from multiple angles by leveraging its various personas, such as asking it to "Critique this product like Right-Wing Grok" or "Defend it like Left-Wing Grok."

Today, we played around with Grok, the maverick of the AI world. Of course, it still lacks enterprise features and sometimes causes controversy with its overly edgy remarks.

If you want fast, accurate answers, choose GPT or Gemini. If you want in-depth analysis and logical writing, choose Claude. And if you want a partner who's up on real-time trends and is humorous and honest, choose Grok.
