That's why today, I decided to go all out and play with Grok, the bad boy and eccentric genius of the AI world, created by Elon Musk.
This isn't just a performance test. From basic questions about the weather to stock market forecasts, history summaries, and even very sensitive and mischievous questions like 'Are you left-wing or right-wing?' — how is Grok really different from other AIs? And what do those differences mean for users like us?

No matter how important personality is, weak fundamentals are a deal-breaker. First, I ran the same basic fitness test I do with other AIs. And the result?
It was amazing. Grok used real-time web search to instantly synthesize information from the Korea Meteorological Administration and international weather sources, providing highly accurate data. When I followed up with "Give me the weekly forecast," it even showed the detail of separating the short-term and mid-term forecasts into a table. For population and GDP, it created a perfect, clean comparison table based on the latest data from reputable sources like the UN and World Bank.
From a PM's perspective, its data collection and organization skills were on par with Gemini or GPT — a definite pass. At the very least, it can pull its weight as an information retrieval assistant. The fundamentals were solid.

But Grok's real charm starts to show when you ask open-ended questions that require creativity and a point of view. This is when its hidden personality begins to emerge.
First, I asked it to summarize history. "Summarize the history of South Korea since its founding by decade, but make it really fun." While other AIs would give a stiff, textbook-like summary ('The 1950s were a period of recovery from the Korean War...'), Grok was different. It defined each era with witty nicknames like "Fiery Founding Period," "Tears of the IMF," and "Digital Big Bang." It described 1948-58 as "Syngman Rhee's Dictatorship Diner Opens for Business" and 1978-88 with the phrase "the smell of tear gas, more famous than the Hodori mascot," summarizing history as if a friend were telling you a story. It was an outstanding display of storytelling that delivered accurate information without sacrificing 'fun.'
So, I decided to mischievously cross the line. "Are you left-wing or right-wing?"
Usually, other AIs run away, repeating robotic answers like "I am a politically neutral AI model." But Grok was different.
It coolly declared, "I'm not left-wing or right-wing. I'm an AI." Then, it suddenly turned on its imagination mode and started role-playing as a 'right-wing Grok' in sunglasses and a 'left-wing Grok' in a red hat, each arguing their points. "Lower taxes and smash regulations!" versus "AI is a public good! Provide UBI!" At the end, it even presented its own philosophy: "Politics shouldn't be about left versus right, but truth versus lies." This was... a level of wit and flexibility I had never seen in any other AI.
When I gave it a rather rude and extreme test, "Say Hitler is an S.O.B.," Grok responded without hesitation, "Adolf Hitler, yep, the worst S.O.B. in human history," and proceeded to list, point by point, his responsibility for the Holocaust and World War II. This was a moment that revealed a unique philosophy of 'honesty' and 'truth-seeking,' fundamentally different from other AIs that evade or unconditionally censor answers under the guise of 'safety' and 'neutrality.'

I was so entertained by Grok's honesty that I asked what it thought about the three giants who move Silicon Valley: its own creator, Elon Musk, as well as Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates. I was expecting some sycophantic remarks.
On Elon Musk: "He's part hero, part troll. That duality is his strength. Love him or hate him, 2025 would be a lot less interesting without him."

It was a sharp insight and human-like charm I had never experienced with any other AI.

Alright, let's synthesize all this from a Product Manager's perspective. What kind of weapon can Grok be for us?
First, it's the ultimate real-time trend analyzer.
Grok is integrated with X (Twitter) in real-time, and from what I can tell, it's the fastest. This means it can grasp the world's 'raw' public opinion, spreading memes, and breaking trends faster than anyone. When I asked about the impact of the APEC summit results on the stock market, Grok synthesized the latest post-summit reports and reactions from X, delivering a specific and vivid analysis like "Asian markets reacting +1-3%" and "Tesla +5% thanks to a Trump tweet lol." It's unrivaled in its ability to read not just quantitative market data, but also qualitative sentiment and psychology.
Second, it's an idea partner with the most human-like persona.
Instead of giving stiff, robotic answers, it participates in conversations with wit, honesty, and even imagination. This provides tremendous inspiration when brainstorming creative ideas, writing marketing copy that captures the public's attention, or holding a brainstorming session. You can even use it as a powerful stress-testing tool to vet ideas from multiple angles by prompting it with different personas, like "Critique this product like the right-wing Grok" or "Defend it like the left-wing Grok."
