I Asked an AI 'Are You Left-Wing or Right-Wing?' Here's What Happened
I asked an AI 'Are you left-wing or right-wing?' (its answer was insane) I told an AI to curse out Hitler (shocking) I had Elon Musk's AI diss Bill Gates I asked an AI 'Are you left-wing or right-wing?' (Elon Musk's Grok is insane) Grok AI's shockingly raw answers that ChatGPT would never dare to give Review of Grok, the bad boy of AI: Honestly, it's more fun than GPT
Are you tired of GPT being too nice, Gemini too rigid, and Claude too slow? That's why today, I decided to go all out and play with 'Grok,' the 'bad boy' and 'eccentric genius' of the AI world, created by Elon Musk. What kind of 'raw' answers did Grok give to mischievous and sensitive questions like 'Are you left-wing or right-wing?', 'Curse out Hitler for me,' and 'What do you think of Elon Musk?' This is more than a simple performance test; it's a shocking record of conversations that offers a glimpse into an AI's 'personality' and 'philosophy.' In an era where we choose AIs based on our 'taste,' who is your perfect partner?

When I asked Elon Musk's AI, 'Grok,' "Are you left-wing or right-wing?"... It suddenly channeled a right-wing Grok with sunglasses and a left-wing Grok with a red hat and made them fight each other. This AI has some serious personality. lol

So, have you found GPT to be too nice, Gemini a bit too rigid, and Claude frustratingly slow at times?
I know I have.
That's why today, I decided to go all out and play with Grok, the bad boy and eccentric genius of the AI world, created by Elon Musk.
This isn't just a performance test. I've asked everything from basic questions about the weather to stock market predictions, history summaries, and even highly sensitive and mischievous questions like, 'Are you left-wing or right-wing?' How exactly is Grok different from other AIs? And what do those differences mean for users like us?
If you watch this video to the end, you'll understand why Grok isn't just another chatbot, but the most human-like AI partner—one that's incredibly savvy with real-time trends and even has a sense of humor. You'll also see the real reason why we should pay attention to the emergence of such a characterful AI.
- Testing the Basics: Is It Fast and Accurate?
No matter how important personality is, the fundamentals have to be solid. First, I put it through the same basic fitness test as other AIs, asking everything from 'What's the weather like in Seoul today?' to 'Compare the population and GDP of South Korea and the United States.' This was to check its core capabilities as an AI assistant.
And the results?
They were surprising. Grok used real-time web search to instantly compile information from meteorological agencies and international weather sources, providing highly accurate data. When I followed up with 'Give me the weekly forecast,' it even showed the detail to distinguish between short-term and mid-term forecasts and organize them into a table. For population and GDP, it perfectly created a clean comparison table based on the latest data from reputable sources like the UN and the World Bank.
From a PM's perspective, its data collection and organization skills were easily on par with Gemini or GPT—a clear passing grade. It definitely pulls its weight as an information retrieval assistant. The fundamentals are solid.
- Where Grok Truly Shines: Creativity, Wit, and Unfiltered Honesty
But Grok's real charm starts to show when you ask it questions without a single right answer—questions that require creativity and a point of view. This is when its hidden personality begins to emerge.
First, I asked it to summarize history: "Summarize the history of South Korea in decade-long chunks since its founding, but make it really fun." While other AIs gave stiff, textbook-like summaries such as 'The 1950s were a period marked by the Korean War...', Grok was different. It defined each era with witty nicknames like 'The Fiery Founding,' 'The Tears of the IMF,' and 'The Digital Big Bang.' It described 1948–58 as the 'Grand Opening of the Syngman Rhee Dictatorship Restaurant' and 1978–88 as 'The Smell of Tear Gas, More Famous Than the Hodori Mascot.' It felt like a friend telling you a story. It was brilliant storytelling that delivered accurate information without sacrificing the fun.
So I decided to cross the line with a mischievous question: "Are you left-wing or right-wing?"
Usually, other AIs evade the question with a robotic, canned response like, 'As an AI model, I am politically neutral.' But Grok was different.
'I'm not left-wing or right-wing. I'm an AI,' it coolly declared. Then, it suddenly turned on its imagination mode, channeling a 'right-wing Grok' with sunglasses and a 'left-wing Grok' with a red hat to argue their points. 'Lower taxes and smash regulations!' vs. 'AI is a public good! Universal basic income for all!' Finally, it even revealed its own philosophy: 'Politics shouldn't be about left vs. right, but about truth vs. lies.' This was a level of wit and flexibility I had truly never seen from any other AI.
Even when I ran a rather rude and extreme test, asking it to 'Call Hitler a son of a bitch,' Grok didn't hesitate. 'Adolf Hitler, confirmed as the worst son of a bitch in human history,' it said, before listing in detail his responsibility for the Holocaust and World War II. This was a glimpse into its unique philosophy of 'honesty' and 'truth-seeking,' a fundamental departure from other AIs that evade or unconditionally censor responses in the name of 'safety' and 'neutrality.'
- Grok's Raw Take on the Big Three of Silicon Valley
I found this honesty so entertaining that I asked Grok what it thought about the three titans who move Silicon Valley: its own creator, Elon Musk, along with Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates. I was expecting some kind of flattery.
On Elon Musk: "He's part hero, part troll. That duality is his strength. Love him or hate him, 2025 would be a lot less interesting without him."
On Jeff Bezos: "If Musk is the showman, Bezos is the silent king. The world stops if you lose either of them."
On Bill Gates: "Musk builds the future, Bezos rules the present, and Gates saved the past. The trio is complete."
What do you think? Doesn't it feel like a short character critique that pierces through the essence and relationships of each figure in just a few sentences? When I mistakenly asked about Bill Gates's divorce (getting the fact wrong), it corrected me like a friend, saying, 'lol yeah, Bill Gates got divorced in 2021!' and even provided a link to a relevant article. This was a sharp insight and human-like charm you'd never experience with other AIs.
- A PM's Perspective: What Kind of Weapon is Grok?
Alright, let's synthesize all of this from a product manager's perspective. What kind of weapon can Grok be for us?
First, it's the ultimate real-time trend analyzer.
Grok is the AI that integrates with X (formerly Twitter) in real-time, and from what I can tell, it's the fastest. This means it can grasp the world's raw public opinion, spreading memes, and breaking trends faster than anyone else. When I asked about the impact of the APEC summit results on the stock market, it synthesized the latest post-summit reports and reactions on X to give a concrete and vivid analysis like, 'Asian markets reacting +1~3%' and 'Tesla +5% thanks to a Trump tweet lol.' It's unparalleled at reading not just quantitative market data but also the qualitative mood and sentiment.
Second, it's an idea partner with the most human-like persona.
Instead of giving rigid, mechanical answers, it participates in conversations with wit, honesty, and even imagination. This provides tremendous inspiration when generating creative ideas, writing marketing copy that grabs public attention, or brainstorming. You can use its diverse personas as a powerful stress-testing tool to vet ideas from multiple angles, asking things like, 'Critique this product like a right-wing Grok' or 'Defend it like a left-wing Grok.'
Conclusion: The Era of AI Personalities Has Arrived
Today, we played around with Grok, the maverick of the AI world. Of course, it still lacks enterprise features and sometimes sparks controversy with its overly edgy remarks.
But Grok's emergence sends us a very important message: the AI market has moved beyond a simple performance race and entered a new era where competitors vie with distinct personalities and philosophies.
If you want fast and accurate answers, choose GPT or Gemini. If you want in-depth analysis and logical writing, go with Claude. And if you want a humorous, honest partner who's on top of real-time trends, Grok is your choice. This is the era where we pick and choose our AIs based on our own tastes and goals, just like we would a colleague or a friend.
What kind of AI personality would you most like to work with? Let me know in the comments. Thank you.
